The CNSC has issued an order to Ontario Power Generation (OPG) related to the operation of Darlington Nuclear Generating Station.
The order requires OPG to obtain authorization from the Commission prior to the restart of Units 1 or 4 or following any outage that results in the cool down of the heat transport system.
The order requires the licensee, prior to seeking restart authorization, to complete one of the following:
- Carry out inspection and maintenance activities and submit results of such activities to the CNSC that demonstrate a high degree of confidence that pressure tube hydrogen equivalent levels [Heq] are within OPG Darlington’s licensing basis.
- Carry out inspection and maintenance activities and submit results of such activities to the CNSC that demonstrate with a high degree of confidence that no flaws are present in the region of pressure tubes where the models failed to conservatively predict the elevated hydrogen levels [Heq].
