Discharge of water containing hydrazine at Point Lepreau

New Brunswick Power Nuclear (NBPN) has reported to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission that on November 24th, 2011, there was a discharge of water containing hydrazine at the Point Lepreau Generating Station. The discharge was not at an approved release point; nevertheless, the environmental implications were estimated to be minimal and localized.

NBPN has contacted the New Brunswick Department of Environment (NBDOE) and representatives of the local community regarding this event. The NBDOE is scheduled to visit the site on Wednesday, December 14th, 2011, to confirm the initial findings and complete the investigation.
