Subject: Invitation to comment on Draft Regulatory Standard, S-310, Safety Analysis for Nuclear Power Plants

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is issuing for public review and comment, Draft Regulatory Standard, S-310, Safety Analysis for Nuclear Power Plants.

The purpose of this Regulatory Standard, when incorporated in a licence for a nuclear power plant or other legally enforceable instrument, is to help assure, during the preparation of a site for a nuclear power plant, or during the construction, operation or decommissioning of a nuclear power plant, that adequate safety analyses are completed by, or on behalf of, the licensee in accordance with the Nuclear Safety and Control Act (“NSC Act,” “Act”) and regulatory requirements.

The CNSC invites interested persons to assist in the further development of this draft regulatory document by commenting in writing on the document's content and potential usefulness. Please respond by March 24, 2005. Direct your comments to the postal or e-mail address below, referencing file 1-8-8-310.

The CNSC will take the comments received on S-310 into account when developing the regulatory standard further. These comments will be subject to the provisions of the federal Access to Information Act.
