Corie Houldsworth

Professional biography

Corie returned to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) in 2019 after previously serving as an inspector. As director of the Office of the Chief Science Officer, she leads the CNSC’s science and technology programs, which include research, technical training and regulatory innovation, to strengthen the CNSC’s regulatory capability.

Expertise and education

Her academic background includes a master’s degree in learning and technology, a certificate in health, safety and environment, and a diploma in nuclear medicine. Her experience spans inspection, healthcare, radiopharmaceutical production, consulting and energy services, with expertise in adult learning, radiation protection, management systems, regulatory affairs and environmental protection. Her experience also includes the transport of Class 7 radioactive materials.

Roles and responsibilities

In her role, Corie oversees research contracts, grants and contributions, technical training, regulatory innovation, scientific integrity and partnerships. Her team stays up to date on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to assess new regulatory needs. This work supports nuclear safety, security and safeguards, while helping protect health, the environment and the public interest.

Other highlights

As champion of the CNSC’s employee network for women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), she supports mentorship and inclusion. She also served as president of the Canadian Radiation Protection Association in 2024–25.
