Professional biography
Daniel has worked at the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) since 2007. As Senior Research Program Officer in the Office of the Chief Science Officer, he leads the CNSC’s Research and Support Program, which supports research related to nuclear safety, security, safeguards, health and the environment.
Expertise and education
His background includes mechanical engineering, research planning, regulatory support and science program management. He holds a mechanical engineering degree from McMaster University. His work connects to many areas of the organization’s mandate by helping identify research needs, support scientific studies and share research findings that contribute to evidence-based regulatory decision making.
Roles and responsibilities
In his role, Daniel helps ensure that the CNSC’s research needs are identified, planned and supported through research contracts, contribution agreements and collaborative arrangements. He works with non-profit organizations, academic institutions, government bodies, consultants and researchers to support projects that respond to organizational priorities. He also helps make research information available through reports and summaries published on the CNSC website.

Daniel leads the development of the CNSC’s research plan and helps ensure research projects are linked to the organization’s goals and corporate priorities.
