Professional biography
Laura has worked at the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) since 2019. As a project officer in the Operations Secretariat on the Compliance and Enforcement team, she works on programs that support the team’s activities, including managing the Inspector Training Qualification Program, which supports the training, qualification and certification of CNSC inspectors.
Expertise and education
Laura holds a master’s degree from the University of Ottawa, where she conducted research on internet governance.
Roles and responsibilities
In her role, Laura supports the CNSC’s inspector community, helping ensure that members have the knowledge, skills and certification they need to carry out effective regulatory inspections. She coordinates a program that supports approximately 180 certified inspectors. These inspectors play an important role in verifying that licensees follow regulatory requirements and that CNSC-regulated activities are carried out safely. Her work supports inspection readiness and consistent regulatory oversight and enforcement, as well as the CNSC’s broader mandate to protect people in Canada and the environment.
Other highlights
Before joining the Operations Secretariat, Laura worked in the Strategic Communications Directorate as a communications coordinator. That experience supports her current work by helping her communicate program information clearly and coordinate across teams involved in inspector training, qualification, certification and regulatory enforcement.
