Change in disposal of aqueous liquid waste

Environment assessment (EA) start date: December 3, 2002
Type: Screening
FEAI reference number: 35374
Proponent: Shield Source Incorporated
Location: Peterborough, Ontario

Project description

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has authorized a change in operations at Shield Source Incorporated (SSI) in Peterborough, Ontario. The requested change involves a change in disposal of its aqueous liquid waste whereby the endpoint is now the municipal sewer system rather than a septic tank.

Prior to authorizing the disposal of aqueous liquid waste to the sewer, an EA was completed in compliance with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. The purpose of an EA is to identify the possible environmental effects of a proposed project, and to determine whether these effects can be mitigated before the project is allowed to proceed. The EA was completed on December 11, 2002, and concluded that no significant effects were likely.
